Our whole country is angry. But who is the real enemy?
It’s not black people, or immigrants, duh. It’s not even the deplorables- they’re tools. It’s people in power using the economic downturn they created to turn us against each other. Unemployment, underemployment, and the disappearance of the middle class; all of these things are caused by policies our elected government, on both sides, have put into place. We are being pitted against each other, clawing at each other while the real perpetrators are busy pulling up the ladder, sealing our fate as a nation of haves and have-nots.
In times of insecurity, we look to leaders for answers. There will always be someone to take advantage of our human need for an exterior moral compass. No one chooses to believe a lie, not consciously, but when all you hear, day in and day out, is a repetition of that lie, it becomes the truth for you, especially when it touches on feelings of dis empowerment, and the reaction to disempowerment, deep, simmering anger. The Big Lie becomes more and more difficult to ferret out when one of its principle tenets is discrediting all sources of information that don’t back up what you chose to believe a long time ago. The vertigo is tremendous, I can tell you that from experience. It’s embarrassing, then enraging, and much easier to slip back into than to overcome.
I want to know why you think what you think. Maybe I’m missing something. I’m not afraid to be wrong, are you? I want what’s right and true, not me over you. Let’s talk about it. That means we both listen as much as we speak.
And you there, smug Democrat, are you aware of your role in the Big Lie? Do you question the party leadership that feeds the Good vs. Evil binary? Are you secure enough in your finances that you are willing to blame millennial laziness for the lack of middle class jobs available? Let’s talk about it. Let’s focus on getting it right, not blaming each other for what we got wrong.
That is my request, Dear Reader, please talk to each other. Don’t feed the trolls, but talk to the people you know. Take discussions out of the public discourse– private message so it’s personal. Be unrelentingly kind. Listen to the emotional core of the person you disagree with first. Mark it well.
Let’s circulate facts, in peace, not in anger. Tall order I know, all of us have the right to be angry right now. Let’s turn toward each other, as a people, question the government, get involved in the government, stop thinking of the government as some morally unimpugnable entity. The government is our bitch, created to serve us, not the other way around.
